Animals should be treated with respect. Our animals have free access to wholesome and nutritious food. They have the ability to get ample exercise and live their lives outside. They are kept in clean and sanitary conditions with plenty of ventilation. In the rare case an animal falls ill, they receive prompt medical attention. We believe each animal should get to express their innate characteristics. Joel Salatin calls this “the pigness of the pig” or “chickenness of the chicken.”
Our farming practices raise healthy animals, so there is no need for routine antibiotics or sub therapeutic medications. On the rare occasion that an animal falls ill, the farmer will exhaust all resources before the rare case of antibiotics or pharmaceutical drugs to stop suffering.
Hormones or steroids are never administered to animals. (The FDA does not allow the use of hormones or antibiotics in the production of pork or poultry.)
Pigs and chickens are provided with non-GMO feeds that are sourced as locally as possible. Pigs and chickens are omnivores so they need to be supplemented with grain. Cattle do not receive this supplementation as they are herbivores.
