Why Pastured Poultry?

Pastured poultry includes chickens: laying hens and meat birds; turkeys; ducks; geese; and more. Our focus is on Cornish Cross meat birds. There are benefits to each species and we anticipate expanding in the future. Chickens raised on pasture are happier and healthier birds, they provide healthy, nutrient dense protein, and they improve the soil/land.
Pastured chickens are happier and healthier. We raise our birds outdoors. They breathe fresh air, eat grass and bugs, and are moved daily to fresh grass. We process our birds at 8 weeks. We do not use medications in our feed, we do not use hormones or antibiotics. Our birds thrive on high quality feed, fresh air, fresh water (Apple Cider Vinegar supplement in the water).
The birds provide us with healthy, nutrient dense protein. Pastured chicken is healthier. To put it simply, there is some truth to: “you are what you eat.” Our birds are fed a high quality non-gmo ration and are given fresh water and fresh grass/bugs. Chickens are omnivores and thrive on this more varied diet. They also receive more fresh air and exercise than conventionally raised birds.
Our chickens improve the land. The chickens fertilize the land they are on. This fertilizer feeds soil biology and we therefore have healthier soils and grow more grass. We strive to improve soil fertility and organic matter so that our soils will have increased water holding capacity and grow more grass. These improvements will benefit wildlife as well as other on-farm enterprises. We believe farming should benefit the environment and we strive to do so.
