Creating a Farm Logo

Back to the theme of starting a business is a daunting task...Creating a logo has been a time consuming and stressful challenge. First, I am not very creative and certainly not tech savvy enough to create a logo myself. The internet provides opportunity for this and I know other regenerative farmers have used Fiverr.com to create logos. So I thought I would give it a try and see what happened. Fiverr.com is a really interesting concept and I think it can be a workable solution. They even had a commercial in the Super Bowl this year.
The process was quite difficult for me. I had trouble getting on the same page with my designers. We attempted two separate orders. I really liked one of the two designers. We didn't speak the same language. I assume that is literally true but what was more significant was that farming has its own language and my designers did not speak it. Things that are quite obvious to a farmer were entirely foreign to my designers (even though advertised for farming).
This really showed that I need to work on my communication skills. I asked for a "red cow" since I raise south poll (red cattle with no horns). I received crayon colored red cows with horns. I received cartoon dairy cattle. I received red brahman (distinctive breed with horns, a hump, and long ears). My first offering prominently displayed a barn and silo even though our focus is on soil, grass, water, and sunshine. Clearly, my designers and I needed to work on our communication. We never got to where I hoped we would, but I learned through the process and will try again at some point in the future.
Why do I need a logo? Here is where I am failing a bit on the business/entrepreneurial side of things. I probably don't "need" a logo yet. I do certainly "want" a logo. I want a hat, shirt, sweatshirt that represents all the time, energy, and money invested into this new farm. Will I sell even one more chicken based on a logo? Probably not. So far, people buy my chicken because of some connection to me and to local food. I'm proud of what we are doing and I want a logo that reflects that.
I'll keep trying, I'll find someone who can make me a logo. I'll find the right company to partner with or the right customer that cares enough for what we are doing with Carver Family Farms LLC to help us take it to the next level. For now I appreciate that Fiverr.com got me thinking about the logo. I appreciate having fodder for a blog post and some stories to tell. I'll shift my focus back to preparing for our Spring 2021 growing season. We have 400 chicks coming next month and they don't care at all about the logo.
